Sports Bar WiFi and Starlink Backup for The Swansea Jack, Swansea

The Challenge

The Swansea Jack needed WiFi that could keep up with a packed match-day crowd, and a backup plan for its internet. A site survey showed the usual answer would not work: mobile signal in the comms room was so poor that a 4G or 5G backup was not viable. The existing WiFi layout also left gaps, with access points on long patch leads and in the wrong places, and the tills behind the bar needed reliable wired connections instead of relying on WiFi.

Our Solution

We surveyed the venue, produced a WiFi design and rebuilt the network around it. Five access points now cover the bar: four on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Existing cable runs were re-terminated into proper back boxes, one access point was relocated to a better position, and two new runs were added. Each till point behind the bar was hard-wired with two dedicated data points. For resilience, a Starlink dish was installed on the flat roof and cabled down to the comms room as an automatic failover link, which does not depend on the weak mobile signal inside the building. Guest WiFi runs through the Dhillon's branded portal and feeds the group's Fresh CRM.

The Result

The Swansea Jack now has full WiFi coverage across both floors, hard-wired tills, and a satellite backup that keeps the bar trading even if the main line fails. This is the right failover for a building where mobile backup was never an option. Match-day guests connect through the branded portal, and the venue is monitored 24/7/365 with the rest of the Dhillon's group, around 150 miles from the group's Coventry base.
