The Challenge

Village pubs live and die by their takings, and at The George everything from card terminals and online food orders to guest WiFi depends on the internet. In a rural village like Cullingworth, fast fixed-line broadband is not a given. The George needed a connection that was quick to install and reliable on busy quiz nights, plus WiFi across the pub and a way to turn guest WiFi logins into a marketing channel. Tiffin Venue Management already trusted us at Headley, so the brief was to bring the same standard to The George.

Our Solution

We installed a Starlink connection as the primary internet link, with a Fortinet FortiGate 40F firewall managing security and traffic. Three Cambium XV2-2 Wi-Fi 6 access points and an 8-port PoE switch provide coverage across the pub, using cabling provided by the venue. Guest WiFi runs through the Shout! WiFi marketing platform, giving visitors a branded login page. The firewall has secure remote access, so our team manages and monitors everything 24/7 without a site visit.

The Result

The George has run on the managed Starlink network since September 2024. Guests get WiFi throughout the pub, the bar team has a dependable connection for payments and online orders, and the branded guest WiFi gives the pub a way to capture opt-in contacts for events and offers. Tiffin Venue Management now has a consistent, centrally supported network across its venues, with a single point of contact for The George and Headley.
