Independence House
Independence House is a prestigious serviced office centre in Nether Poppleton, just outside York city centre. Operated by London Ebor Ltd, the building offers a mix of private offices, hot desking facilities, and meeting rooms, serving businesses across Yorkshire. The centre also provides reception and call handling services for tenants and external clients including Partners PR and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust.
The Challenge
As a multi-tenant serviced office building, Independence House needed comprehensive WiFi coverage across both floors, with the flexibility to accommodate office reconfigurations as tenant needs changed. The building also required a sophisticated phone system that could handle multiple business lines - not just for their own tenants, but also providing virtual reception services for external organisations. The existing infrastructure had coverage gaps, particularly in subdivided office spaces, and the legacy phone system lacked modern features.
Our Solution
We deployed 16 Cambium access points strategically positioned across both floors to eliminate coverage gaps and provide seamless roaming throughout the building. A Fortinet FortiGate 60F firewall provides enterprise-grade security with VLAN separation for each tenant. The integrated 3CX voice system handles multiple business lines with intelligent routing - reception staff see which company is calling and can answer appropriately, transfer calls to any extension, and manage out-of-hours messaging. Voicemails are automatically emailed to recipients.
The Result
Independence House now offers enterprise-grade connectivity that matches the quality of their serviced office facilities. Every corner of the building has reliable WiFi coverage, and tenants can move freely with seamless roaming. The unified phone system has transformed their reception service - staff can professionally handle calls for Independence House, London Ebor Developments, Partners PR, and Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust from the same handset, with each company's identity displayed on screen. Out-of-hours management is fully automated.
