Halesowen Town FC
Halesowen Town Football Club is a semi-professional club competing in the Southern League, based at The Grove stadium in Halesowen, West Midlands. With a proud community following and growing matchday attendance, the club needed modern connectivity to enhance the fan experience and support day-to-day operations.
The Challenge
Football stadiums present unique WiFi challenges - large outdoor areas that need coverage, high-density crowds on matchdays, and the need to support everything from hospitality point-of-sale systems to live streaming and media operations. The Grove needed reliable connectivity across the stands for fans, robust coverage in the clubhouse for hospitality operations, and dedicated capacity for media streaming on matchdays. Traditional indoor WiFi solutions simply weren't designed for this environment.
Our Solution
We designed a bespoke stadium WiFi solution using a mix of indoor and directional outdoor access points. Four Cambium XV2-2T1 directional outdoor units provide targeted coverage across the stands and terraces, while four XV2-21X indoor units cover the clubhouse, hospitality areas, and media room. Two managed PoE switches provide the backbone connectivity, with a Fortinet FortiGate 40F firewall securing the network and enabling separate SSIDs for staff, hospitality, media, and fans.
The Result
Halesowen Town FC now has comprehensive WiFi coverage across their entire stadium facility. On matchdays, fans can check scores and share updates from anywhere in the ground. The media team can reliably stream matches and upload content. Hospitality areas run smoothly with connected tills and card payments. The segregated network design means high fan usage doesn't impact critical club operations, and the club has the infrastructure to support future digital initiatives like matchday apps and loyalty programmes.
